DIY Home Security Systems or Not?
Before selecting a DIY home security system there are a few things you must look at. First of all check the quality of the system. Examine the components of the system for durability as well as design. An inexpensive DIY home security system could end up costing you more in the long run if it doesn’t work well due to you having to call someone to repair problems you can’t handle yourself. So it when checking out the different systems don’t always use price as a factor.
Another factor to consider is if your homeowner’s insurance company will approve a DIY home security system as an alternative to a professionally installed system. If your insurance company does not approve DIY systems then the discounts given on a professionally installed system may outweigh the cost benefit for a do it yourself system.
If cost is not a factor and you get enjoyment out of DIY projects as many homeowners do then you should by all means do it yourself. If that is the road you choose the recommendation is to do your research, get the system that meets or exceeds you requirements for a system. Make sure you have the right tools for the job and watch out for hazards such as electrical shock.
I would say a big YES to a DIY home security system. I’ve done it before for my parents and I will do it again for my new home.
And quality is a must in my opinion.
You can always save some money if you go the “Do it yourself” route with all kinds of products. I haven`t thought of DIY home security but i`ll do a research. Nice article.
U can save some money if u do it yourself.
But the benefit of having a proper security firm installing the system and then run it in case of emergency is that if for example somebody breaks in and then puts the taps on just to distroy the property after they took what they needed then you might get water damage in the house . if u have a proper company that comes out in case of an alarm they can minimize the damage.
maybe a stupid example but it happend to my friend.
this is great page!
I would say yes to DIY home security system.I have done it for my old house and for new one i m going to do the same.
Nice post!
I imagine creating a DIY home security system would take a lot of planning. However, if done correctly, could be a fantasitc Addition to your home.
Your right about home insurance though, I’m not sure whether an insurance company would approve a DIY system.
